Man, am I glad this weekend is over.
It had to be one of the worst weekends ever. Or close to it.
I don’t think it is an exaggeration…
The plan was that we had to be at our friend’s apartment by 10:00 a.m. so we could all be out the door by 10:30. The we stands for Matt and I and our friend’s four friends from college (who all happen to be chain smokers and alcoholics). This is pretty early since we do not live right next door. It takes around two and a half to three hours to get there, depending on traffic. So Ernie wakes us up at 4:00 since he has to go to the bathroom, surprise, surprise. After this is all said and done, I do not fall asleep again. My alarm goes off at 5:30 – so we were up pretty early here.
I am already cranky from being awaken by the dog, so while I am in the shower Ernie decides he can’t be alone in the living room and is barking. He wakes up the upstairs neighbor – which I don’t feel too bad because he had to get up anyways for work in a few minutes. Then, I am doing my best to get ready quick so Ernie will behave and not wake up the other neighbors. Doesn’t happen. I have to keep going out there to shut him up. If I have him in the same room, he still barks because he is bored and wants out – even if he has toys.
He is never satisfied, I swear.
After this is all done, we are out the door by 7:00 like I was hoping. However, about ten/fifteen minutes from home we remember we were suppose to bring the cooler because our friend wanted to go to the beach in the afternoon. So we turn around and grabbed it. While we are back, we remember like eight other things and have to do like four different things, so we are now thirty minutes late. Damn it.
Of course, we still needed to put gas in the car. Ugh. So there is another ten minutes gone.
Finally, we are on the road. We actually make good timing and get there a few minutes after 10:00 only to find everyone still sleeping because they were up until 4:00 a.m. getting wasted. So the time we got up was the time they went to bed. Great… so we wait around for over two hours. Why the hell did we get up so damn early if you are all going to get trashed and then make us all late?! UGH!
Once everyone is finally ready there are too many people to fit into one car so of course Matt has to drive. No one wants to ride with us (we needed one person to in order to fit everyone) so someone else volunteers to drive their bigger vehicle. So it was Matt and them driving… instead of our friend who is having the get-together. It would make more sense if she drove, Matt and I rode with her and everyone else rode in the bigger vehicle.
The traffic in Chicago is bad people. Not to mention when you are following someone who sucks at leading and weaves in and out of traffic. I almost swear they wanted to lose us.
Oh, I forgot to mention this part. The original plan was to go to some museums, aquariums and galleries, then eat, then go to the beach to save money, then dinner and then back to her place. Well, her friends decided they wanted to go to the Zoo instead. Okay, Zoos are fine but if I am in Chicago who the frank cares about a zoo! I can go to one anywhere people! Not to mention this zoo cost me a whole arm and a leg by the time we were out of there. Parking, general admission, extra exibits, etc. Shit. Needless to say, we never did use the cooler we went back to get.
We are at the zoo for five hours. Keep in mind that we ate a Cinnamon role the size of a quarter and that was it. So we are starving – the food there was shitty and like $8 for a hot dog. No thanks.
So after the zoo we had to meet up with a co-worker of our friend so we could go out to eat. He knew Chicago better so it was nice to have a navigator. We were told to meet him at his apartment but there is only room for one car in the parking garage so Matt and I were told by the other vehicle that we were to park on the street. Yeah right. All parking for the next how many miles was reserved. I like how we get stuck without a place to park. We said screw it and ended up parking in the apartment parking garage, which cost us about $30 for a couple of hours.
After parking, we had to spend more money to take the train a whole whopping two blocks or so. Too much money for that if you ask me. It was a nice experience though. Then we continued to walk, and walk, and walk. By the time we got to the destination, it was over an hour later. And there was a line. A huge line. A two hour wait.
Same with the next place.
They decided to eat at a pub. Keep in mind they never ask us what our opinion is this whole time – not that it matters that much I guess…
The food was excellent but that is because I was dying of starvation. Once I wasn’t so hungry the food was just okay. And expensive.
Yes, I am very bitter because we are saving for that house and here we are dropping money we don’t have like crazy.
After dinner we head out to do some more walking and see a few artistic statue type things. Then they want to go to the bars. By this time, Matt was feeling really shitty. He had a huge migraine and we both just wanted to go back to the apartment – we even talked about not staying the night and just heading home. I talked to my friend and at first it didn’t seem like it was going to happen but then I stated that they had the night before to get wasted and everything we did today was what they wanted. That worked and we eventually made our way back to the train station so we wouldn’t have to walk another eighty miles – not to mention it was dark and cold by this time.
Finally we made it back to our car and were heading out of the city. The problem here was that there was an accident so the four lane was at a stand still. We entered on the left side and had to make it across all of the lanes to the other side to get the next exit. Wow, this took forever. Then we waited.
Finally, we made it past. The accident was three motorcycles and a car. Luckily no one had life threatening injuries.
To make this long story short, we finally got home and got to bed. They got home about bar closing time and woke me up until they went to bed a long while later. The next morning we got up early, had breakfast at Dunkin’ Donuts and then went home.
We ended up getting stuck in traffic again for another accident. I actually think a car broke down and blocked the road for a while.
But, we did finally make it home and I have to say that I will not be going back to Chicago for a very, very long time.
My lungs are still trying to recover from all of that smoke!
Sorry for such a long and boring post!
