I am kind of excited about this… not going to lie! Call me a nerd, I know that I am.

Anyway, I have been coding several sites lately where the site owners want to use a specific font on all of the pages. As most of you designers may know, this is hard to accomplish in IE since it does not support font embed for CSS3.

Well, I found this great online tool that converts TTF to EOT!

For those of you who are unaware, EOT is the only font type that is supported when embedding fonts in the stylesheet for IE.

And, the online tool does all of the work for you (and you don’t have to install anything)! It even gives you the code you need to use!

Check it out here.

I want to make sure this is really clear for everyone, so here are some further instructions.

Convert the .tff you want to use on the website using this tool.

Once the font is converted, save it into your website folder (along with the .ttf if it isn’t already).

Copy the code it gives you. I edited it a bit so it goes in the styesheet and not the head of your website.

@font-face {font-family: jenkins; src: url(“JENKINSV.eot“) /* EOT file for IE */}
@font-face {font-family: jenkins; src: url(“JENKINSV.TTF“) /* TTF file for CSS3 browsers */}

The information that is in bold is unique to my font. You will have your own name. For the font family, pick a name that you will remember and use what you wish.

When it comes time to use the font in a tag, it will look something like this:
.post-title {font-family:jenkins,Georgia,”Times New Roman”,Times, serif;}

or

.post-title {font:10pt jenkins,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;}

Walla! Once you upload all of the fonts and the stylesheet, it will now be working!

I hope you all enjoy this tool and love it as much as me!

The title says it all. I am happy, happy, happy.

Why is that?

Because THE GREEN BAY PACKERS WON THE SUPER BOWL!!! Oh yeah! I am a huge Packer fan. I get a little carried away…

I even named one of my vehicles after Rodgers (the quarterback).

Obsessive.

I am also happy because it finally snowed a decent amount last week. We got somewhere between fifteen and twenty inches.

Here are some pictures.

First things first, Matt had to shovel the driveway. Ernie thought he wanted to help, but since the snow was taller than him, and he is a big pansy, he came back in rather quickly.

Actually, before this, I had to actually find him in the backyard. He thought he would follow Maggie out, and quickly realized that the snow was even taller than he realized and he was stuck.

It was actually quite funny.

After the driveway was done, and Matt shoveled away the four feet of snow that the snow plow left at the end of the driveway three times, we went for a drive. We have four wheel drive, and a pretty tall vehicle, so it was fun. Most of these roads were not plowed yet.

The trees were beautiful!!

This is one of the roads that was not plowed. Someone made a tunnel through the snow, but that is actually a 7 foot plus wall ON the road. It was taller than my vehicle, but so much fun to drive through.

These were some of the vehicles that were stranded and left in the middle of the road from the night before. There were several of them alongside this road.

There was so much snow and nowhere to put it, so it had to be taken away by trucks. There are still plenty of city roads that this needs to be done to yet.

Isn’t downtown gorgeous in the winter?

I know, I have been too quiet lately. I have nothing to write about but at the same time, lots to tell you. If that makes any sense at all.

I started a new job six weeks ago. It has been great, and I love it. I don’t want to say too many specifics about it since it is a known fact that you should not blog about your job… not that I have anything bad to say… but if I did, it wouldn’t be on here I suppose.

I will tell you that I love working in the city (even though there are some terrible drivers on the roads), having several meetings a week, how there are more than seven people working at the company (there are roughly 700), and how I have to dress up every day to go to work. It is a whole new experience from what I am use to.

I feel like I have a purpose where I am at now. Not that I didn’t enjoy where I was before, but I felt like there was nowhere to grow. I was stuck at home 3 out of the 5 days with little interaction with clients or co-workers, and it was starting to get tiresome. I was bored too often and tired from having nothing to do.

Now, there is life in my work and already I am experiencing opportunities that I would never had the chance to with my old job.

Last week I went out with my co-workers to dinner and a theatre showing. It was right in the heart of the city, and besides the blistering winds, it was a wonderful time. I love walking through the city at night, with all of the lights and sounds. And the smells of all the different restaurants and different cultures. I really wish I would have taken my camera to share the experience.

The play itself was a bit strange. It was nothing of what I imagined and there should have been a warning when purchasing the tickets about the sexual content. I feel bad for the old couples who left after the first half because of the content. But it was still a fun experience. I am already looking forward to the next outing.

Other than my new job, there isn’t a whole lot going on. We haven’t done any big projects around the house for a while, although we have a few ideas bouncing around…

We were thinking about doing the countertops in the kitchen next, but now I am thinking we should start on the basement. The second is more expensive, but it wouldn’t be a rush job. No one sees the basement and the only reason we are down there now is to do laundry, so if it takes a long time to finish it isn’t a big deal.

It would be nice having the extra room downstairs. We would probably move the things in the loft to the basement, and then move the office to the loft. Then we would have the current office/spare bedroom solely the spare bedroom.

I have been also working on several WordPress themes. None of them are finished, but I have many started. I hope to finish them soon and get some free ones posted on here. I know, I have been promising some for a while now!

Before I started my new job, I opened up an Etsy shop. I planned on putting some pre-mades for sale but have not gotten around to finishing them. I am still taking clients though, so if you are interested, feel free to stop by and place an order!

I put together a pack of 16 free bokeh textures for you all to enjoy. Just head on over to the Themes/Resources page to download!

To give you an example of how to use them, I used it on one of my latest photos:

It adds a nice dynamic/texture to a photo. The only thing I ask is that you do not claim the textures as your own and if you use it somewhere it would be nice to be credited.

I hope you enjoy them!

I also made a new design for myself. The other one grew old fast and I wanted something not as bright.

We will see how long this one lasts.

I’ve been doing a lot of searching the past few months to find a good comforter for the guest bedroom/office. I wanted one that looked nice, was fun and bright, but was also cheap. We don’t have guests over who stay the night very often so it only gets used a few times a year at most.

I actually consider it the cats’ bed because they are always on it, as you will see from the photos below.

Since I am very indecisive on most things, I went back and forth between a few sets. I found one I really liked at Target that was on sale, but they didn’t have any in Full size. I even looked online for it and had no luck.

After a few days of pouting, I decided to get the original one I had decided on from Wal-mart. Except, they had an even cuter one. What really made my decision was the cute throw pillows.

Too cute.

Cute little pillow, no?

But I think it brightens up the room very well and the room doesn’t look as small now.

I think Hunter is enjoying it the most.

So my laptop is still broken. I picked it up Wednesday afternoon and the guy told me that he cleaned up some corrupt files on the hard drive and since then it only froze once.

It cost me $45. Which isn’t bad, but I have never taken a computer in before since my Dad always fixes them. The only reason I took it in was because he is always busy and I thought a part would need to be ordered and it is impossible to find Sony parts!

So I am mad that I spent $45 for nothing. The only reason there were corrupt files was because the damn thing kept freezing and you needed to hold the power button to turn it off. Oy. I should have mentioned to him that there would be corrupt parts and that was not the problem.

So anyway, I got it back. I used it for work on Thursday. Then Friday it wanted to install 18 updates for Windows. Then it froze on the updates. I let it sit there forever and finally gave up because it wasn’t going to magically unfreeze. Now, I am assuming because it froze in the middle of updates, I can’t even get Windows or Safe Mode to load. It just sits on a black screen.

Sooo, I am annoyed. I will have to create a boot disk I suppose. Hopefully I will have time to fix it before Monday.

So frustrating.

Anyway, I made this layout several weeks ago on my laptop and decided to back it up just in case. Good thing I did so I can actually post it! Go download it!

I also made a fix to the Spring & Summer theme. It corrects bullets in posts. So if you downloaded it, please re-download.

Days go by way to fast!

Really. I swear yesterday was the beginning of April and now it’s almost the middle of May.

Anyway, I’ve been busy trying to come up with a new layout. This one took me eight hours to design and two hours to code… way to long if you ask me. It is pretty graphic heavy for loading purposes, so I hope no one had to wait too long! And, like the last few, it is longer than some of your screen resolutions. I apologize for this. It looks the same in all browsers, well I am not sure about IE6 since I don’t have that browser… so hopefully it looks okay there. Although, I have my doubts.

IE6 needs to die.

That is all. I will have a real update up soon.

I hope.

When the temperatures finally warm up and we know that we are going to have a nice week or two, Matt and I want to repaint the house. The paint is starting to peel since it wasn’t the highest quality and the current colors are kind of bland.

I always struggle with choosing colors because I am more of a visual person. I like to see something in its entirety before I commit to it. Hence, why I am a graphic designer. I love the undo button!

This is why I need your help! I found a color combination that I love and I think will look good on our style of house. But I am just not 100% sure…

These are the current colors. First off, we are going to cut down a lot of these bushes to do new landscaping. They don’t look this nice now and they are trapping moisture next to the house. So they have to go.

I am not sure what type of landscaping I want to do, but I think I will cross that bridge after the painting is complete.

Now, these are the colors I am thinking. The image is from a Better Homes & Gardens article. The house style is kind of similar… well as similar as you can get to our style of house.

The orange is kind of bold, something that I wouldn’t normally do. But I like it. I like how it pops against the brown-ish – whatever you want to call it – color.

We wouldn’t be able to do the cream-ish striped pattern at the peaks because, well, we don’t have peaks like that and ours are too large and it would just look silly. That makes me kind of sad because I think that is one aspect of the color combination that makes it go from bland to exciting.

So, any suggestions?

Do you think those colors would just look strange on our house?

Do you think it would be too dark?

Do I just need to stop thinking so much and go for it?

Help!
